SELF-GUIDED PRACTICE
How to practice
- Sit quietly and choose a simple anchor such as breath, body contact, or sounds.
- When a thought appears, notice it as an event in the mind rather than as a problem to solve.
- Apply one short functional label, such as planning, remembering, judging, comparing, worrying, or imagining.
- Keep the label brief and neutral; do not explain why the thought appeared.
- After labeling, return to the anchor or to open awareness of the present moment.
- If thoughts come quickly, label only the most obvious one and slow the practice down.
- If labeling becomes harsh or obsessive, drop the labels and feel the body for a few breaths.
- End by noticing that thoughts can be known without being followed immediately.
Stay comfortable. You can stop at any time or return to your natural breath.
