SELF-GUIDED PRACTICE
How to practice
- Choose a mild or moderate difficulty, not the most overwhelming situation in your life.
- Sit comfortably and notice how this difficulty feels in the body right now.
- Acknowledge the pain plainly with a phrase such as this is hard or this is a moment of suffering.
- Remind yourself that difficulty is part of being human, even when the details are personal.
- Offer a realistic caring phrase, such as may I be kind to myself, may I give myself what I need, or may I meet this with patience.
- If helpful, place a hand on the heart, belly, or another grounding contact point.
- If the emotion becomes too intense, open the eyes and return to the breath, feet, or room.
- End by naming one supportive action you can take after the practice.
Stay comfortable. You can stop at any time or return to your natural breath.
